LEGAL CAREER Upon graduating from St. John’s University, Joaquin E. Orellana was a litigation paralegal for the law firm of Brecher, Fishman, Pasternack, Popish, Heller, Rubin & Reiff, P.C., where he enjoyed assisting the firms’ clients with the preparation of their Workers’ Compensation claims, Social Security Disability claims and Negligence actions. This inspired Mr. Orellana to pursue a legal career and enter law school.
After his law school graduation and bar examinations, Joaquin E. Orellana worked as a law clerk at the Fortune Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the fabric of our communities by offering numerous alternatives to incarceration programs for the successful re-entry into society by ex-convicts. As part of its Family Law Services, Mr. Orellana assisted in the preparation of various child support, visitation, and custody cases, and conducted weekly family law seminars to help educate ex-convicts of their legal rights.
After admission into the practice of law in the States of NY and NJ, Mr. Orellana began his legal career as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Justino Garcia, Esq. His practice involved the commencement and litigation of a wide variety of lawsuits in the NY State courts including premises liability, labor law cases, construction accidents, automobile accidents, adoption and child custody cases, and landlord-tenant cases. He worked closely with Justino Garcia, Esq. in pursuing rights on behalf of clients and resolving their cases.
Subsequently, Joaquin E. Orellana was hired as a litigation associate at the law firm of Cullen & Dykman, LLP, where he worked as an associate in the firm's Litigation Department. His practice focused on the defense of construction site accidents, automobile accidents, and premises liability cases. Mr. Orellana routinely appeared on behalf of the firm before state court judges for case conferencing and oral arguments on motions.
Mr. Orellana is admitted to practice law before the State Courts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, as well as the United States District Court of New Jersey. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, and the New York County Lawyer's Association.
EDUCATION Mr. Orellana graduated from St. John's University in 1999 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He obtained his law degree from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2004, where he was a member and associate editor of the Touro Law Review, a Teaching Assistant, and President of the Latin American Law Students Association. While attending law school, Mr. Orellana served as a legal intern in two non-profit legal clinics, the Family Law Clinic and International Human Rights Clinic.
